History and Development

Emsworth Community Association has a long history of successful development.  It was started in 1975 with eight founding groups, when the old Church of England primary school moved and the buildings became available.   With the number and range of activities increasing, more space was wanted.  So the Lumley Room was added in 1987 and the school playground turned into a car park.  Then in 2004, the Mountford wing was built, providing further much-needed facilities.

Emsworth Community Association serves an area whose population will grow from around 10,000 in 2011 to 13,000 by 2020.  The area has a lot of families with young children and 3,500 residents (35%) are over 60 years of age.  The trustees seek to provide for the needs of all the population and are currently planning a new phase of development.  This will join the old and new buildings with a common entrance making access easier and safer for all.  It will also provide an upgrade of the interior facilities to modern standards.
